Porkchop with Five Spices

Ethnicity: Vietnamese

3 lbs pork tenderloin cut lengthwise into 5 or 6 strips

The marinade

  • 1 cup soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon "five spices," or 1/2 teaspoon each of powder anise, cloves, garlic, and cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger or 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

Marinade the meat for 1 hour at room temperature. Charcoal broil until golden. 

The marinade can be refrigerated and reused, each time adding 1/4 of the above spices
